It’s been announced that RTÉ2fm are partnering up with the European Broadcasting Union and The BBC to bring us Ariana Grande’s “One Love” Benefit Concert, live Manchester’s Old Trafford Cricket Ground. Nicky will be presenting the whole event from Dublin on RTÉ 2fm this Sunday, June 4th at 6:00PM IRE time.
The Benefit concert brings together some of the biggest pop stars in the world, including: Take That, Niall Horan, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Robbie Williams and Little Mix; where everything raised will be going to the Red Cross’s Manchester Emergency Fund. The event comes less than two weeks after 22 people died and 116 were injured in a suicide bombing after Grande’s concert at the city’s arena.
Take That had the first of their two shows at 3Arena in Dublin, last night, and Nicky & Jenny were there to chat to the lads before taking the stage. On today’s Nicky Byrne Show, they aired their interview, and you can catch up on the RTÉ Radio Player(minute 18:30). Here’s a picture Nicky shared on Twitter and Instagram.
This year’s 2fm Xmas Ball to support ISPCC Childline was a total success! Raising €10,000 more euros than last year; they donated a total of €460,000! Congratulations to everyone involved! Nicky was amongst the presenters of the night, and he got the crowd cheering when he asked for his famous Mexican wave. If you watch the videos, you’ll notice that his voice wasn’t 100% there, so I want to wish him a very speedy recovery.
This year’s 2fm Xmas Ball in Aid of ISPCC has just been announced! The event will take place at the 3Arena in Dublin, on December 3rd. The concert will be hosted by none other than the RTÉ 2fm Presenters, including Nicky!

Want to see Nicky perform at the Eurovision 2nd Semi-Finals? Well, now’s your chance! Eurovision is releasing a bunch of remaining tickets on sale today. It all starts at 10am CET (that’s 9am in Ireland/U.K.), and you have to be fast because they sell out very quickly! Here’s what you need to know:
At 9.30am, 30 minutes prior to the onsale, Eurovision will open the Waiting Room for all nine shows. Select the one you wish to get tickets for. – NOTE: you are not guaranteed tickets even if you get a place in the Waiting Room.
While in the Waiting Room, you can fill out your credit card details in case you don’t have those saved within your AXS account. If you get the chance to buy tickets, you will be prompted to log in after selecting tickets.
DO NOT refresh the event page, it updates automatically.
At 10am onwards, customers will gradually be let in to start the purchase process.
If you get through to select tickets, make your selection and go to the next step. Please be aware if you change your mind about the selection and release your tickets, you will be placed last in line.
DJ, presenter – and charming MC last night – also confirms release is on the horizon.
At one point, HP couldn’t help but notice him chatting with Gavin James, just 24 hours before he supports Ed Sheeran at Croke Park. Was the Westlife man doling out a bit of advice?
“It didn’t come up, actually,” Nicky laughed. “I don’t think I could describe it anyway. The first couple of minutes when you go on stage are insane. You can’t hear anything. You can’t even breathe, never mind sing. Your mouth dries up. It’s just a wall of noise, a cauldron.”
Westlife capped their career with a pair of dates at HQ – unsurprisingly, they’re stand-out memories in Byrne’s mind.
“It was an amazing way to finish. It was weird though; you knew you were going to wake up the following morning unemployed! You were never going to do that again, but what memories.”
And a new chapter of his musical career is just around the corner too; Byrne confirmed that a solo album is progressing very nicely indeed.
“I’ve been co-writing with Wayne Hector,” he reports. “He wrote ‘Flying Without Wings’, and he’s worked with Nicki Minaj and One Direction too. I’ve literally squeezed it in after radio on the days that I could. I obviously had the TV show too; this explains why it took so long, if I’m honest!”
But there’s no fear of Byrne jacking in his 2fm gig; “I couldn’t,” he smiled. “I just love it too much.”
