The voting in the Eurovision Song Contest is set to be radically transformed this year.
In previous years, the results of the professional juries and viewers have been presented as a combined result – each accounting for 50% of the final score. But from this year, the professional juries and televoters will each award a separate set of points – from 1 to 8, 10 and 12. This now means the top 10 countries in both the jury and televote will receive points, adding a new level to the show.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After viewers have cast their votes by phone, text or through the official app, each national spokesperson from the 43 countries will be called in to present the points of their jury. Then after that presentation, the televoting points from will be combined – providing one score for each song. These televoting results will then be announced by the host, starting with the country receiving the fewest points from the public.
For those wanting to know how their country has voted, the televoting and jury scores from each participating country will be available after the show on Eurovision.tv.
“This new way of presenting the votes is a big step forward, both to make a better television show as well as a more exciting competition,” said the EBU’s Jon Ola Sand, executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest. “There is more reason than ever to vote in the Eurovision Song Contest. The new voting format guarantees that the song which is most popular among the public will receive twelve points regardless of how the juries voted”.

People wait every year to see what the Eurovision stage will look like… And today, fans can finally have a sneak peek. Swedish broadcaster SVT has revealed the stage design for 2016 which is described as powerful and brave.
The set designers have used light as a strong component to create depth. “We want to do something that makes people wonder if it’s even possible”, says Viktor Brattström. Plans also include an innovative LED wall which allows the artists to move inside it. “Normally an LED wall is a flat background wall at the very end of the stage. We have broken up the wall and made it possible for people to move inside it” he added. “This year we are trying to play with the room and create optical illusions”.
Producer, Sven Stojanovic, is very impressed with the design plans; “It’s really a great looking stage, giving us something that we haven’t seen before. In a way the stage gives us almost unlimited possibilities but at the same time forcing us to think in a new way. Creatively it’s both challenging and inspiring”.
I cannot wait to see what Nicky will do with it! #TeamIreland
He’s done it! Nicky sang ‘Sunlight’ for the 1st time on The Ray D’Arcy Show tonight, and made everyone in Ireland and across the world proud! The song is amazing, and the performance was brilliant. Happy I got to watch it live and see Nicky shine onstage like he deserves.
He was also interviewed on the show. He talked about Eurovision, music, his upcoming plans and many more things! Plus, it was great to see all the people’s support when asked to talk to him and give him feedback.
His performance is now available on YouTube as well!
Here are a few pictures from today. Click on them for more!
Nicky’s performance is just a few hours away, but soundcheck has already taken place and he’s also been doing press. Massive thank you to Kaeylea and Goss.ie for sharing some pictures. Stay tuned for his interview with them tomorrow:
He also recorded some videos reminding the fans to catch the show at 10:05pm on RTÉ One:
Nicky Byrne Live rehearsals for The Ray D'arcy Show!
On today’s release of ‘Sunlight’, he called Jenny Greene on air, where he talked about how things have been going. He is very pleased and excited about tomorrow, but he’s nervous about neighbours and friends watching:
“It’s going to be good but it’s nerve-wrecking, there’s not doubt about it,” he said. “I’m doing an interview first, and then the song is, I believe, probably about 10 or 15 minutes later.” He later added, “The rehearsals are going really well so everybody’s really up for this. We’ve had a week of everything: from styling to vocal rehearsals… It’s a real, I would say, like a ‘pop-rock’ kind of group.”
When asked what he’s going to be wearing, he said “A very cool leather jacket and some nice black jeans with some nice cool biker boots.” Sounds fantastic! Hey, even cute little Gia got to say hi on the The Nicky Byrne Show this morning! She’s adorable 🙂 Listen back right here:
